Hatchet by Gary Paulsen is a book about survival. Tough survival, meaning you have no pre-made shelter, no food, no humans for company, and no hygiene at all. A thirteen-year-old boy named Brian Robeson is heading off to Canada to visit his father. Just him and the pilot, alone up in the air. The pilot offers to give Brian a little flying lesson. It's a good thing Brian did that or he probably wouldn't be alive after chapter 2. By shock the pilot had a heart attack, leaving Brian flying a plane in the middle of nowhere. Luckily he manages to land the plane safely enough to rescue himself. Although all he can think about is his hunger and thirst, and if anyone will ever find him. By luck his mother gave him a hatchet which he depends on for practically everything. He was glad his mother had given it to him, but on the other hand, it was her fault in the first place that he had to go on the trip. He is alone in the wilderness for 54 days. Can Brian survive? The book Hatchet will reveal itself if you give it a chance. This book gives you excitement, drama, fright, and even horror. Hatchet will give you the opportunity to be there and see everything going on as if it was in front of you. Hatchet shows you how we get everything so much easier then generations before us. It's hard for me to find books that I can get into, but this book got me hooked easily. I recommend this book for any type of reader.
