This illustration was made with Paint Shop Pro 4.0 , which has far
fewer features than the version 7.0 now available.
I began with one of the many royalty-free images available in
such newsgroups as
alt.binaries.clip-art.
The icons on the toolbar made it self-evident how to change
the size, colors, etc.
I overlaid the line sketch of the bird on a background that has a
slight gradient from white FFFFFF at the center to dark red
CC0033 further from the center.
All the fonts installed on your computer are available for adding
text.
That was my first experiment with PSP - before I even opened the
user's manual. After looking in the manual, I realized that I could
have produced less choppy boundaries by working with
a large image in a 16 million colors format, then, only in final
step, reducing the size and saving it as a 256 color gif.
This effect is primitive when compared to the enormous number of
special effects that have been added by Jasc to the newer
versions.
